A good run

Filed under: General, Orienteering and Running, Personal, Weather — Chris Curtis @ 22:03

I was pleased with my run tonight. PBs for 1500m, 3km, 2 miles and 4km and an overall pace of 6:17 mins/km. It felt fairly hard, but the new shoes are definitely limiting the impact on my legs and especially knees and shins.

The weather was fresher. There was a breeze and although it is still very warm, and definitely summer, it was not anything like as “sticky” as it has been recently. We are moving into the end of summer. Grass is high and dry. There is already a little gold in the tree-leaves and nights have that lovely stillness. It is dark much earlier too.

New Running Shoes

Filed under: General, Orienteering and Running, Personal — Chris Curtis @ 18:26

I went along to the sweatshop store in Bluewater (it is called “SheRunsHeRuns”) and had myself checked and fitted for some new running shoes – as the mileage is slowly building up and guessing that I am going to be on the road more once the evenings darken again.

The video of me running on the treadmill was very interesting. The line from my right calf into the ankle and foot was almost a crescent shape. the left not quite so bad but definitely not in a straight line. When fitted with stability control shoes, everything was much straighter and running felt lighter.

I came away with Saucony Pro Omni8’s – that should work fairly well on trails and on the road.

World Wide Festival of Races

Filed under: Orienteering and Running, Personal, Software and Web — Chris Curtis @ 20:04

Just signed up for the “Kick the couch 5K” in the “World Wide Festival of Races” which commits me to run 5K on the weekend of 10 – 11th October in company with runners from all over the world who will be doing 5K, 10K or half-marathons – the training has a purpose!

The WWFoR is linked with Phedippidations (itunes)- a podcast which I often listen to while running.

A nice run

Filed under: Orienteering and Running, Personal — Chris Curtis @ 19:19

I went out for a training run tonight. I was a little fearful because during the last one (only on Wednesday) I felt awful and had lots of pain in my legs and back. I had to keep stopping and it felt as if weeks of effort had gone to nothing. Tonight was much better. Not my fastest, but I was reasonably comfortable (though it is an effort!). I was able to do the whole session without having to stop.

I am twelve weeks into the new programme. There have been some stops and starts – mostly a result of work pressures or being away on holiday – so I have just finished “week 8″ of the “couch to 5K” programme having done week 8 twice and week 6 twice due to missed runs. Sunday is the beginning of week 9 with the aim of finishing week ten (run for a full 30 minutes without stopping) by the end of August. Should do. This would set me up for three 5ks a week training when school returns in the autumn and then looking for a 5K fun run somewhere before Christmas.
